Lecturer suspended over Farook gender issue
KOZHIKODE: The ongoing tussle between the management of Farook College here and a student over sex discrimination has claimed another casualty. The management of Sullamussalam Science College, Areacode in Malappuram district, on Monday dismissed Mohammed Shafeeq CP, a guest lecturer, for posting a Facebook status supporting K Dinu, the suspended student.
Authorities of the college, run by Muslim Educational Association, informed Mr Shafeeq that his services are discontinued forthwith.
The college authorities told Deccan Chronicle that the improper language of the Facebook post was one of the reasons but “we have dismissed him from service primarily because we are not satisfied with the quality of his teaching.”
Mr Shafeeq’s Facebook message in rather crude Malayalam suggested that those who supported the Farook College management for its action against Mr Dinu had no business to do so.
“Morality is lack of opportunity,” he commented, referring to those who sought action against Mr Dinu, an IIT dropout, for having sat in the classroom with girl students.
Mr Shafeeq said he was at a loss as to why he was targeted, that too even without giving him a notice. “A section in the Muslim community wants to ascertain the point that no one will be allowed to survive if they go against the community’s ideology or against the rules and regulations it sets,” he said. “I will raise my voice against such institutions who consider teachers and students as their slaves.” He, however, said he is worried about his career, now that he has got into the bad book of a prominent in Malabar.
