Foreign couple ties knot Hindu style

Inspired by love of people, place, rituals

Kozhikode: Stodghill Ronnie Thomas flew all the way from America to Kerala with his 30- year-old girlfriend Farmer Amy Rebecca to fulfill their dream of having a wedding in desi style.

On Sunday, the couple tied the knot in the presence of their friends and relatives at Venugopal Sree Krishna Temple, Azhiyur in Kozhikode District, in the Hindu style of marriage beginning with wearing the Kerala traditional attire to tying the Thali- the sacred chain of a Hindu marriage.

The couple who had come to Kerala to get trained in ayurveda and yoga to propagate it back home, wished for a long time to have their wedding in Kerala style.

Inspired by the love of the people, place and wedding rituals of Hindu marriage in Kerala, the couple decided to get married here.

The groom clad in a white silk dhoti- kurta and his bride in a Kerala traditional white saree, arrived at the temple as per the astrological time fixed for the marriage.

Sharing the experience of getting married in Kerala style, Amy said, “We see a thriving religion in Kerala with a strong belief in God and full of life unlike in Western countries.

Unlike our country, the wedding here is short and so sweet with a few beautiful rituals like tying the thali and exchanging garlands”, she said.

“Inspite of many temples in the State restricting people from other religions entering them, we were given a warm welcome by this temple and the people here blessed us for a good future,” she added.
