Yoga may help reduce the side effects of prostrate cancer treatment
Yoga could be helpful in improving the quality of life of men with prostrate cancer who are undergoing radiation therapy, according to a study led by an Indian-origin researcher.
The study found that the general quality of life and extent of side effects experienced by prostrate cancer patients like fatigue, sexual health and urinary incontinence were stable throughout the session of outpatient radiation therapy among the patients participating in an intensive yoga programme.
Experts explain that this could be because physiological data demonstrated yoga’s ability in reducing cancer-related fatigue, strengthen pelvic floor muscles and increase blood flow, according to the IANS. The findings of this study were presented at the Society of Integrative Oncology's 12th International Conference in Boston.
