Visakhapatnam: Half Marathon sets in gala mood
Visakhapatnam: The Half Marathon conducted by the Eastern Naval Command in the run up to International Fleet Review-2016 translated into a big carnival here on Sunday.
With cheering spectators and smiling runners, the atmosphere on the Beach Road was joyous and uplifting. The event set in a spirit of unity and moreover the excitement and enthusiasm among the citizens was palpable for the reason that their city will be witnessing an international event in February.
AP home minister N. Chinarajappa attended the event as the chief guest and Chief of Staff (ENC) Vice Admiral Bimal Verma and Vice Admiral Satish Soni were the guests of honour. “Such events will strengthen the unity of the city. The state government is pumping in huge money for the development of Vizag. The result will be visible very soon. The people in AP should be proud that an international event is going to be held in their state,” the minister said.
The route map for the marathon was from Kurusura Submarine Museum via Tenneti Park to Naval Coast Battery. The marathon received good response as about 4,636 people participating in it, of which 984 ran for 21.5 km while 1,208 and 2,444 for 10km and 5km respectively.
