Kollam: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started scrutinising documents linked to corruption allegations at the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation based on the High Court directive. The government is yet to issue a notification for CBI probe though the HC directed to do so in two months. The local police and the Vigilance department also failed to register a case based on the quick verification.
The CBI is planning to file an FIR soon.The home department had forwarded a letter to the Kollam City Police to register a case of corruption. The police allegedly returned it saying, “no substantiating document” was enclosed.But the city police commissioner denied it.
“There is no role for the local police to register a case. The vigilance is entitled to inquire into corruption allegations above Rs 5 lakh. In this case, the CBI can directly register an FIR,” P. Prakash IPS told DC. The economic offence wing of the CBI in Kochi will conduct probe based on the court directive and prepare the FIR.
The CBI officials in the coming days will register statements of the officials of the Cashew Corporation and the complainant Kadakampally Manoj.
