Red sanders smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy sent to 14-day judicial remand

Gangi Reddy ran a highly-organised smuggling racket with help of local smugglers

Anantapur: Notorious red sanders smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy was sent to 14-day judicial remand by the Proddatur Magistrate court in Kadapa district on Monday.

A native of Mallemvari Palle in Pullampet mandal in Kadapa district, Gangi Reddy was arrested by Interpol officials at Mauritius in February this year, on a red corner notice issued on a warrant issued by Dhone magistrate court after he escaped on bail on May 16 last year and fled country.

Gangi Reddy, who ran a highly-organised red sanders smuggling racket with help of local smugglers from Chittoor, Nellore, Kurnool and Kadapa districts, is the brother of YSRC leader Kollam Brahmanadna Reddy.

He was shifted to district prison at Kadapa. Faction zone DSP B. Sreenivasulu said a custody petition will be filed in the court seeking police custody to extract information about his nexus with other smugglers, officials and leaders.
