Andhra Pradesh cops ready to grill the smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy

Many politicians and officials are nervous due to their alleged nexus with Gangi

Anantapur: Deportation of notorious red sanders smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy from Mauritius has made many top political leaders and officials nervous, as many of them allegedly have nexus with the smuggler.

A native of Mallemvari Palle in Pullampet mandal in Kadapa district, Gangi Reddy was arrested by Interpol officials at Mauritius in February this year, on a red corner notice issued on a warrant issued by Dhone magistrate court after he escaped on bail on May 16 last year and fled country.

Gangi Reddy, who ran a highly-organised red sanders smuggling racket with help of local smugglers from Chittoor, Nellore, Kurnool and Kadapa districts, is the brother of YSRC leader Kollam Brahmanadna Reddy.

Speculation is rife that the police are preparing to extract information from the notorious smuggler about his connection with local politicians and officials.

The TD cadres are taking dig to attack on YSRC top leaders including party chief Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy over the nexus during Congress regime.

“We have already identified immovable assets of Gangi Reddy such as a petrol bunk, pulverisation mills, landed property and a three-storey building in Hyderabad, Tirupati, Chennai and Kadapa in benami names,” a top official said.

He said that they suspected the smuggler gifted land and other properties to officials and political leaders for their cooperation in smuggling. According to Police sources, Mr Gangi Reddy would be produced at Proddutur court in Kadapa on Monday.
