YSR Congress MLA arrested over rented party office issue
Vijayawada: Gudivada MLA Kodali Venkateswara Rao aka Nani was on Sunday arrested by police for allegedly breaking into his rented party office in Gudivada town.
The MLA of opposition YSRC was arrested after he tried to break open the locked party office for which he allegedly did not pay rents since years.
According to police, the MLA hired a building in the town for party office from an elderly woman Ms Sasikala.
"He promised to pay rent arrears and vacate the place after winning the elections. But never did it. He have been dragging the issue without vacating my property", Ms Sasikala told reporters. She said the MLA was using her property since 11 years.
Police said that the woman lodged complaint with police and locked up the party office obstructing entry of the party men.
When the MLA Mr Venkateswara Rao came to office he found it locked and got into argument with the woman. Police who intervened the situation too had an argument with the MLA and later arrested him to prevent him from entering the property. Tension prevailed in Gudivada following the arrest of Kodali Nani who has strong base locally. The MLA was shifted to Kaikaluru police station.
Meanwhile, YSRC MLA from Pamarru Ms Uppuleti Kalpana condemned the arrest and said police deliberately arrested Mr Nani without any prior notice. She demanded immediately release of the arrested.
On the other hand, union minister M Venkaiah Naidu is touring the town to attend various programmes on Sunday.
