Manjeera dries up for first time
Hyderabad: Over 40 villages in Sangareddy, Sadasivpet and Kondapur mandals of Medal district have been served notice that no drinking water will be pumped for them and they have to look for alternatives.
The 2 TMC ft-capacity Manjeera has gone bone dry for the first time in its history, while Singur has just 1.5 TMC ft against its full capacity of 25 TMC feet. Officials have installed pumps to pump out water but that is likely to stop given the depleting water levels. In the city, meanwhile, water rationing has already begun in many areas.
The water board is drawing 70 MGD less from its sources. A water board official said, the Krishna Phase III and the Godavari water were the only alternatives. The second part of Krishna Phase III, to supply 45 million gallons per day in the city, will be commissioned in the weeks ahead.
