Children take over Cubbon Park!
Bengaluru: It was fantasy come true for thousands of children and their families who flocked Cubbon Park on Saturday. If a floral aeroplane welcomed them, replicas of Disneyland characters added to the joy of visiting the park. The multi-coloured capsicum house won the hearts of many. The first Children’s Day Flower Show in Cubbon Park is a massive success, beams deputy director of Horticulture department (Cubbon Park) Mahantesh Murugod.
The Horticulture Department in association with the Development of Women and Child Department and Bal Bhavan has organised a two-day flower and vegetable show on the park premises on November 14 and 15.
On the inaugural day on Saturday, more than 50,000 people visited the park. Out of the 13 replicas set up in the park, some of the major attractions are floral replicas of giraffe, boat, aeroplane, jeep and house made from red, yellow and green capsicum.
The department has also invited the Jawarhalal Nehru Planetarium staff who have displayed 45 information boards on the universe, sun, radio waves, animals and birds.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mr Murugod added that various cultural programmes like singing and dancing competitions were held as part of the celebrations. He said, “For the first time the flower show is being held exclusively for children and we wanted it to be colourful. We have used lilies, roses, carnations, orchids and other exotic varieties of flowers. The response was overwhelming.”
Following the success of the show, the Horticulture department has now decided to hold an annual flower in November. Mr Murugod, said, “Since Kannada Rajyotsava and Children’s Day are celebrated in the same month, an annual flower show for these occasions will be the department's contribution for the society. We want more people to visit the flower show.”
Visitors to the park can also watch BSF band and weapon show, attend terrace gardening workshops and other similar events. Entry for flower show is free for all and the show will end on Sunday.
