A heritage shot lands photographer in top ten!

Darbar Hall of Koti Women’s College wins him a spot in the Scott Kelby photo walk competition

Quitting a well-paid administration job in the Caribbean just to make his new-found hobby and passion for photography as a career shocked his family members. But Navin Bahirwani who is currently in Hyderabad, followed his instinct and proved everyone wrong when one of his photos of the Darbar Hall in Hyderabad’s Koti Women’s College was selected as one of the top 10 photographs from 21,000 entries in a worldwide Scott Kelby photo walk competition.

Strangely, 41-year-old Navin who shifted base to Hyderabad from Vizag last year, had ventured into photography only a few years back. “Photography was never in my hobby list, but I believe that Vizag’s beauty made me a photographer. You never realise the beauty of your native place until you live away from it. It happened to me when I was working in the Caribbean as an accountant for 10 years. The passion for photography arose in me when I wanted to share the beauty of my native place with people from other areas of the world,” says Navin.

In this age of social media you don’t need to wait for years to get noticed, and it was the same with Navin. “My friends and many social media users noticed my talent and praised the photographs I posted on my Facebook page. Later, I started getting requests from friends to click photos for them or their events. Then I started getting paid for assignments,” says Navin. Making money through photography is a tough task as a lot of budding photographs are entering the field. He says, “However, I follow what my hearts says and I don’t want to regret anything in my life.”
