Most parts of IAS building in Hyderabad demolished
Hyderabad: Counsel for the petitioner said that IAS officers had already vacated the building and Forum for a Better Hyderabad, which was fighting for protection of heritage structures, had come forward to file the PIL. The bench questioned counsel appearing for the state government what it had in mind for the place after demolishing the existing structure and also sought to know whether they had deleted the structure from the list of heritage buildings before starting the demolition process.
When there was no clear reply from counsel, the bench ordered status quo to be maintained and asked for a report by Monday on the status of the building along with photos. Meanwhile, the NGO alleged that by the time they had reached the spot with a copy of the court order, the roads and buildings department had demolished a major portion of the building.
In February 2015 the TS government had promised a brand new club with ultra modern facilities to the IAS Officers Association at the current SIB building adjacent to the CM’s camp office in Somajiguda in lieu of handing over the existing club premises behind the CM’s camp office.
The IAS officers Association had taken the DGCR building at Greenlands on long lease in 1982 from the erstwhile AP government. The building, which has been declared a heritage structure, is situated on 4.5 acre of land and has a tennis court, three badminton courts, a multi-functional gym, bar and club house.
The premises was said to be acquired by the R & B department for extension of the CM’s camp office and the swimming pool was demolished four months ago purportedly for vaastu reasons.
