Bengaluru: The cash strapped Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) has become richer by Rs 3.1 crore in just 12 days. As owning a BDA site still remains a dream for many, BDA enjoys the patronage of citizens of the state despite earning a bad reputation for delay and official apathy in allotting physical possession of sites at Arkavathy Layout for the last 10 years.
According to sources in BDA, all the banks where applications are being issued are seeing a mad rush for obtaining applications for getting a site at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout being formed near Mysore – Magadi Road. The BDA has earned Rs 3.1 crore from the public in the form of application fee and initial deposits from them to obtain sites. The sites will be allotted as per the allotment rules based on seniority or number of attempts to get a site.
The BDA invited applications on November 2 for 5,000 sites at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout and has issued a record 21,000 odd applications in just 12 days and collected Rs 3.1 crore in the form of applications and deposits. After picking the 5,000 lucky eligible allottees as per the allotment rules, the deposits of other applicants will be returned. However, their deposit will not yield any interest to them, added sources.
There is a huge demand for smaller dimension sites with 20X30 feet (600 sq. ft.) measurement since the prices are lesser than bigger dimension sites. As many as 17,310 applications were issued in the first week between November 2 and November 6. Some banks are issuing just 40 applications per day to ensure that banking activities are not affected, said sources.
The BDA has received complaints that some of the applicants have not been given acknowledgement and in some districts applications were not available. Following the complaints, the nuances have been addressed, added sources.
Sources confirmed that BDA has failed to answer the queries of Arkavathy Layout site allottees who are yet to get physical possession of sites. The allottees of Arkavathy Layout have still not been informed whether they are eligible to get sites in Kempegowda Layout or whether they will be accommodated at Arkavathy Layout. Now, they plan to wage legal battle all over again to get physical possession of sites.
