CM Oommen Chandy lays stone for MVR cancer centre
Kozhikode: Aiming to root out cancer from the State, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony of the City Service Cooperative Bank’s first intervention in the medical sector - the MVR cancer hospital and Research center, Chathamangalam on Friday. MVR hospital will have the status of the first Cancer center in South India meeting all International standards in cancer treatment and research.
The City Service Cooperative bank will run the center under its trust ‘Cancer and Allied Ailments Research (CARE) Foundation’ with an estimated amount of Rs 400 crore earmarked for the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that arrangements would be made to make medicines free for cancer patients above 18 years of age.
The Government has also made provisions to give free treatment for those below 18, he added. He also said that steps would be soon completed to take over Pariyaram Medical College.
