Bengaluru: Woman accuses auto drivers of assault

The complainant, Ms Yashoda Achari, a resident of M.C. Layout, who runs a confectionery shop, also claims to be a Congress worker

BENGALURU: A 45-year-old woman has complained to the Vijayanagar police that she was assaulted by a few autorickshaw drivers at M.C. Layout in Marenahalli on Thursday night.

The complainant, Ms Yashoda Achari, a resident of M.C. Layout, who runs a confectionery shop, also claims to be a Congress worker.

According to her complaint, she was returning from a clinic in M.C. Layout around 8 pm on Thursday. As she moved her car, it touched an autorickshaw and 5-6 auto drivers ganged up and assaulted her, she has stated.

The police said that the preliminary probe revealed that the complainant had failed to notice a passenger getting down from an auto and her car bumped against the passenger, who cautioned Ms Achari against negligent driving.

“Several witnesses told us that the woman first assaulted the passenger and then the auto drivers questioned her behaviour and hurled abuses at her. It is also said that one of the auto drivers has filed a complaint with the traffic police and we are trying to know more about the incident. No arrests have been made in this case so far,” an official said.
