After five days, garbage lifted from the parts of South Bengaluru

Pourakarmikas clear wet waste in parts of South Bengaluru

Bengaluru: In a big relief, after a five-day break, pourakarmikas resumed work and cleared wet garbage in many parts of South Bengaluru on Friday. For the past one week, garbage soaked in rain water, including additional festival garbage, has been lying on the streets. Despite BBMP’s partial preparedness, the excessive garbage generated during Dasara- Diwali festivals could not be lifted from streets. While BBMP managed to pick up garbage from selected parts of the city, Bengalureans across different areas complained of the increasing menace.

Nikhila.S, a resident of Kaggadasapura, complained that cases of dengue and malaria had increased in the locality. “The entire locality is filled with garbage dumps in street corners. It has stretched to the extent of occupying even roads. Now, the outbreak of dengue is scaring us. Pourakarmikas haven’t collected garbage in the last 10 days,” she complained.

In Vidyapeeta Circle too the situation was no different. A two-lane road has turned into a huge garbage dump yard hampering traffic movement.
