Xiaomi to sport Snapdragon 820 for next flagship
The Chinese tech giant was reportedly in some royalty issues with Qualcomm, which speculated that Xiaomi will feature the MediaTek chipset for the upcoming flagship Mi 5. However, a recent report by Gizmo China speaks the other way around. The report mentions that Kevin Wang from iSuppli stated Xiaomi using the Qualcomm chipset for its next release. He mentioned that the Mi 5 will feature none other than Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU.
Qualcomm has been one of eth first investors in Xiaomi and has a close relationship with them ever since. All major smartphones released by Xiaomi has been built around Qualcomm’s chipsets. Xiaomi has also recently hired one of their former (China-based) presidents Wand Xiang.
However, a recent media report mentions about Xiaomi’s Mi 5, codenamed Gemini, to be on the test bench and it sports the SD820 chipset. The test results were visible on Geekbench. The Gemini will run on Android 6.0 and will sport the MSM8996 chipset (Snapdragon 820) with 3GB of RAM.
Xiaomi’s Mi 5 is speculated to launch in December 2015. There is no official confirmation on the release and the chipset it will incorporate.
