Put off Gough Road closure, urges K Chandrasekhar Rao
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has written to the Union defence minister requesting him to issue instructions to Army authorities in Secunderabad Cantonment to postpone the closure of Gough Road till alternative roads are completed.
Mr Rao has pointed out the hardships faced by civilians living in nearby areas like Sainikpuri, A.S. Rao Nagar and ECIL either due to closure of roads or the imposition of restrictions by AOC authorities on the use of roads in the Cantonment area.
The CM reminded defense minister Manohar Parrikar about the latter’s meeting with a delegation of people's representatives comprising both MPs and MLAs led by the Deputy Chief Minister on June 15.
The delegation had submitted a memorandum highlighting the difficulties faced by the commuters and had sought his intervention.
“Despite the matter being taken up at the level of local AOC authorities and the Union ministry, apart from existing road closures and restrictions, a decision has been taken by AOC authorities to close Gough Road, causing severe hardship to residents. An analysis of traffic and the impact of the closure of roads passing through Cantonment area revealed extreme pressure on many traffic junctions near the Cantonment area,” wrote Mr Rao.
He stated that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corpo-ration (GHMC) was ready to construct alternative roads provided AOC officials cooperated with the proposals.
