PJ Kurien alleges double standards

Mr Chandy responded saying allegations against the UDF government were baseless
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson P. J. Kurien has alleged double standards in the bar bribery case. In a veiled attack against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the KPCC executive meeting, Mr Kurien said KC (M) supremo K. M. Mani, who resigned on Tuesday and excise minister K. Babu, were treated differently.
But Chandy said it is impossible to sideline a person just because someone has alleged that he has committed sin.
Speakers did not spare KPCC leadership for taking the wrong stand on several issues including beef controversy, SNDP Yogam–BJP alliance and the rebel menace.
K.C. Venugopal MP, KPCC general secretary M. Babu Prasad and T. N. Prathapan MLA unleashed a scathing attack on the KPCC leadership for not taking a proper stand on issues related to beef and SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan cosying up to the saffron brigade.
They also raised the issue of selection of candidates on group loyalties leading to an increase in scores of rebels in the fray in several districts.
Mr Venugopal criticised the leadership going soft on the BJP when CPM had an agenda set against the Sangh Parivar, which KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran agreed.
But what caught everyone by surprise was when Mr Kurien made his allegations.
“In the bar scam, justice was not same for ex-finance minister and excise minister K. Babu. Both were treated by law differently. One of the reasons for the poll debacle is the corruption charges leveled against the UDF government including bar scam,” he said.
Mr Chandy responded saying allegations against the UDF government were baseless. He informed the leaders that Congress would prevent the BJP making strides in the state politics.
