1,000 wings of fire to end journey at Rashtrapati Bhavan
Thiruvananthapuram: The second phase of the 100-day yatra to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam will begin from Thiruvananthapuram on November 16.
The yatra titled ‘1,000 wings of fire’ initiated by NSS of the Vocational Higher Secondary began from Rameswaram on October 14, the birthday of late president Mr Kalam. It reached Thiruvananthapuram the next day. It then took a one-month break. The Subodham project of the state government is also cooperating with the project.
Now, the yatra will proceed to Rashtrapati Bha-van, opening 1,000 community home libraries during its journey. As many as 50 such libraries have already been established.
The yatra will travel through all the 14 districts of the state. The state phase of the yatra will end in Kozhikode on January 16. The programme will culminate at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 26, 2016, Republic Day. A kite flying event is also being planned as part of the yatra.
VHSE director K.P. Noufal said that the yatra aimed at igniting the minds of at least one lakh students through various activities. The community home libraries were intended to serve children by circulating inspiring books.
There was no membership required for these libraries. They were established either in the residence of a NSS volunteer or in a public place under the control of a volunteer, Mr Noufal said.
Any voluntary organisation or person can join the campaign.
