Kozhikode: New corporation council takes charge
LDF mayor candidate V.K.C Mammed Koya drew huge applause when his name was called for taking oath
Kozhikode: The 75-member new council of the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation took charge at a grand function organized at Tagore Centenary Hall in City on Thursday.
The ceremony started District Collector N Prasanth administered the oath to the most senior member of the council K Krishnan, the 76-year old CPM representative from Chettikulam ward of the Corporation.
He later presided over the administration of the oath to the rest of the members. Hundreds including various political party leaders, former mayors and officials witnessed the ceremony.
After Krishnan, Elathur Councillor V Rahiya took oath who sworn in the name of Allah, followed by other councilors according to their ward number.
The members took solemnly affirm oath as well as in the name of god. JD (U) member Jayashree Keerthi of Valiyangadi ward took oath in English.
CPM leader and former Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, who is representing Chakkorathukulam ward, took oath in the name of god.

Though leaders from the LDF and the BJP were presented during the function, the ceremony was conspicuous by the absence of UDF leaders.
Notable presence at the ceremony were former mayors Prof A.K Premajam, T Dasan, C.J Robin, O Rajagopal, MLAs A Pradeep Kumar, A.K Saseendran, E.K Vijayan, CPM leader T P Ramakrishnan and Congress leader P.V Gangadharan.
After the ceremony, the first council meeting held at Corporation Council Hall at 1.15 PM. Senior most member K Krishnan presided over the function. Corporation Secretary T.P Satheesan read out the agenda regarding the Mayor and deputy mayor election scheduled on November 18.
