Group C posts: Government bats for English medium

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government, which in the name of language policy, forcibly imposed Kannada on lakhs of students between 1994 and 2015, now wants English to be one of the compulsory subjects for the appointment of Group C posts in its departments. According to the latest notification issued by the state government over appointment of Category C posts, candidates must appear for a written exam in English and Computer-related subjects for 65 marks, where a wrong answer will cost 0.25 negative marks. Insiders feel that candidates are paying a heavy price for the disorganized language policy followed by the state government for decades.

According to the gazette notification issued by the state government, to which the general public can give their feedback till November 15, major changes are under way for the appointment process of group C posts. These changes are incorporated as per the recommendations of the PC Hota committee.

The highlight of the proposed changes is the scrapping of interviews for these posts. There are also going to be major changes in paper II. Till now all the candidates were supposed to appear for two papers of 100 marks each. Paper I was to be the General Paper, while Paper II was a Subject-Specific Paper. Successful candidates were called for interviews.
