Kerala: Defeated woman contestant attacked, hair cut off
Parassala: Taking political rivalry to a whole new level, a woman Congress candidate who contested the recent block panchayat elections here was attacked by two men and her locks cut off.
According to reports, the victim, N Sathikumari was heading home after alighting at the Amarvila bus stop near Nirakathala temple, when two men started following her on a motorbike. She was grabbed and attacked from behind and suffered blows on head and neck, following which she fell down. The men later on went to cut off her hair, and fled when she ran to a neighbouring home pleading help and raising alarm. While attacking, the assailants questioned her audacity in contesting against the local CPM candidate.
Sathikumari has been admitted to Parassala Government Hospital following the incident. In her complaint, she said that one of her attackers had mentioned the name of a name of a CPM leader from Udiyankulangara ward.
Sathikumari earlier contested the recent block panchayat elections for Kolliyil ward of Perumkadavila panchayat under the UDF banner, which she lost by 814 votes. She is a former DCC member and president of women’s wing of Neyyatinkkara NSS Taluk Union.
