Crime branch ACP to lead probe in Sapphire case
The opposition party said it was the first time such an incident taking place in Kerala
Kochi: Crime Branch assistant commissioner V. Sunil Kumar has taken over the investigation into the Sapphire Hotel demolition with the alleged involvement of Central police station CI Francis Shelby.
DCP Hari Sankar has recommended depar-tmental action against the CI and DGP T.P. Senkumar ordered his suspension from service.
Demanding a Vigilance probe, CPM Ernakulam Central Local Committee alleged that the hotel was demolished by goo-ns with the support of local MLA, district adm-inistration and police.
The opposition party said it was the first time such an incident taking place in Kerala. “We came to know that Kanoos Group has bought the building housing the hotel at Jose Junction and the demolition was an attempt to evict them,” its secretary Prabhakara Naik said. “Such incidents are common in northern parts of the country.”
