CPM to make development plan public

The plan for next decade was finalised after sector wise brainstorming held across the state over the past 10 months
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After tasting victory in the recently concluded local bodies poll, CPM is now all set to publish an alternative development perspective plan for the next decade to woo people ahead of 2016 Assembly elections.
The plan for next decade was finalised after sector wise brainstorming held across the state over the past 10 months. Each district was allotted different sectors for detailed discussions and feedback by experts.
Thiruvananthapuram district discussed decentralisation and governance, Kollam — cashew and allied sectors, Patha-namthitta — forest and en-vironment, Kottayam — higher education, Idukki — plantation, Ernakulam — infrastructure and IT, Thrissur — health sector, Palakkad —– agriculture, Malappuram — cooperative sector, Kozhikode — NRKs, Wayanad — dalit and adivasi issues, Kannur — social security and gender issues and Kasargod — school education.
“We want to present a left alternative which is politically, socially and economically relevant. We want to modernise industry, increase investment without succumbing the neo liberal policies being adopted by Congress and BJP,” said Dr Thomas Isaac, CPM central committee member and main architect of Kerala Study congress.
He said unlike vision 2030 of UDF Government which was more of a bureaucratic exercise, the document being placed at Kerala Study Congress is the outcome of an exhaustive exercise after eliciting the views of experts from core sectors.
“We have involved scholars, planners and experts in a big way. We will rise up to the occasion and present an alternative model before the people,” he said.
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has already declared that the development plan to be presented at the Kerala Study Congress would be form part of the LDF Assembly election manifesto.
With the previous campaigns including the peoples plan programme helping LDF come to power in 1996 and Kerala Development agenda leading to installation of V.S. Achuthanandan government in 2006, the CPM is hopeful that people would receive Left's 2016 development perspective plan positively.
