35 sustain eye injuries on Diwali

Twenty-nine patients were treated in the out-patient department and discharged
Hyderabad: Thirty-five people sustained eye injuries while bursting crackers during Diwali on Wednesday night and were rushed to the Sarojini Devi Eye hospital for treatment.
Due to inflammation caused by sparks, they suffered from severe redness of the eye, continuous watering and also burning inside the eyes.
Twenty-nine patients were treated in the out-patient department and discharged. Four of them sustained serious damage to their corneas and are under treatment.
Hospital superintendent Dr Vinod Kumar said, “Four of them (of the 35 patients) had severely injured the cornea and had to undergo surgery.”
The four patients were Nitesh Kumar, Amit Kumar, Sai Kiran and Vamshi. They said that they were looking up at flower shots and burning paper settled in their eyes leading to severe inflammation and damage.
Apollo Hospitals at Jubilee Hills received four minor burns case and doctors treated the patients in the out-patient department and discharged them.
A source at Apollo Hospitals said, “Two cases were of teenagers and two were of children who had burnt their hands and legs while bursting crackers.”
