Bengaluru: Woman gangraped at Cubbon Park by security guards
Bengaluru: In an incident which sparked revulsion and outrage across Bengaluru, a 30-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by two security guards of Cubbon Park at the park premises on Wednesday night near the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) club.
The victim had come to KSLTA club to inquire about a tennis coaching stint. After the assault, the night beat police spotted the traumatised woman near the park. She narrated her ordeal to the cops who swung into action and arrested the two guards, identified as Raju Meti, 28, and Bolinn Dass, 38, both natives of Assam.
On her arrival at KSLTA on Wednesday evening, the victim, a resident of Tumakuru, was told by security supervisor Shiva Rudrappa to come the next day as it was a holiday. “I asked her to come later to meet officials who could help her with her coaching application form. She told me she wanted to see the stadium. I allowed her and then she left,” Rudrappa told Deccan Chronicle.
The victim reportedly waited at a parking lot close to KSLTA till about 9:30 pm when the security guards spotted her. When she said she did not know how to get to the exit gate, the guards assured to help her but took her to a secluded spot inside the park adjacent to Siddalingaiah circle where they allegedly raped her. The incident is said to have happened between 9:30 and 9:45 pm.
One of the accused Bolinn Dass was arrested while on duty while Raju Meti was arrested from his home in south Bengaluru. The victim has identified the perpetrators, and the two accused have admitted to the crime, the police said. A case of gang-rape and criminal intimidation was registered at Cubbon Park police station.
The cops took the victim and the accused for medical examination at the Bowring Hospital where the doctors confirmed the victim had been sexually assaulted.
