Man in Kerala votes for Opposition, not his mother
Kochi: In an unconventional approach towards fair vote, a man from Kerala did not vote for his mother who was contesting for a seat in local council elections. Instead he chose to support the Opposition.
Rajesh Kumar’s mother, Jagadamma, who is a BJP candidate in Kerala lost by only six votes in Saturday's election. Explaining the reasons through Facebook, his post which was written in Malayalam, garnered more than a thousand shares.
Rajesh, who is a police constable in Kerala, mentioned in the post that he did not want to let his love for his mother stop him from performing his duty towards the nation. He wrote: "My mother was a teacher in my school, but when she forgot the national pledge she taught me, I decided to post this to remind people like my mother about that pledge."
Taunting Modi, he wrote, “I consider myself more nationalistic than any 56-inch man. And I am concerned and worried about my 125 crore brothers and sisters”.
He further criticised BJP regarding their policies. He pointed out that their strategy wasn't working in some parts of the country.
According to blogpost on BBC Trending, Rajesh said that his relationship with his mother remains unchanged by the vote. “She's one of the strongest people I know and we have a very close relationship. My mother said that I have every right to choose my own political stance,” he said.
Dozens commented on his post, saying, "New generation loud and clear", "Proud of you bro” and "I salute you".
While there was tremendous support on one hand, others criticised him for being selfish. "For your own political ambitions you (have) shown disrespect to your mother,” said one.
Rajesh revealed that he voted for the Left Democratic Front coalition, led by the Communist Party of India, the party that won Kerala's local elections.
