Lufthansa strike hits travellers

Lufthansa pilots were on strike on Wednesday to protest against cost cuts
CHENNAI: As Lufthansa pilots were on strike on Wednesday to protest against cost cuts by the company, flights to and from Frankfurt, Germany were cancelled. While the airlines claimed to have sent a message to all its passengers about the cancelled flights, yet several passengers who were to take the flight for Frankfurt arrived at Chennai airport complaining they had received no such message.
Two Lufthansa flights are scheduled every day at the Chennai Airport, with the arriving flight landing at 11.50 pm while the outbound flight departs at 1:50 am. A total of 268 passengers were scheduled to leave and about 60 to 70 passengers turned up at the airport claiming they had not been told about the cancellation. Since the flight also connects to the US, many passengers were distraught as they were expected to join work the following day and had come to the country just to celebrate Deepavali.
Airport officials calmed the crowd down saying there must have been some technical error that could have been the reason why the messages didn’t reach the passengers.
