GHMC polls to delay BJP elections
Hyderabad: The organisation polls of Telangana BJP, which was supposed to be completed by the end of December, may get rescheduled due to the ensuing GHMC polls and state BJP president Mr G. Kishen Reddy’s term may be extended.
Mr Reddy has completed two terms in a row and a new state president is scheduled to be elected as the BJP constitution mandates that a person cannot serve three consecutive terms as president, this includes the party’s national president too.
However, state BJP leaders are saying that in-view of the GHMC polls scheduled for January, the organisation elections might be rescheduled to allow Mr Kishen Reddy to continue for some more time as the whole party’s presence in Telangana is presently confined to GHMC.
All of BJP’s five MLAs in Telangana Assembly are from the GHMC area. “Since GHMC elections are round the corner, it is not good for the party to go ahead with appointing somebody in place of Kishen Reddy. We have already told central party leaders about this,” said a senior BJP MLA from the city on Thursday.
However, Mr Kishen Reddy said that organisational elections need not be rescheduled for the sake of GHMC polls and hoped that they would be completed by December end.
“Due to Bihar Assembly Elections, there was some delay…we are expecting fresh schedule for holding elections to mandal and district level committees in a day or two, there is no problem in holding polls to state units by the end of next month,” he said.
