BJP, Sangh Parivar condemn violence in Madikeri

Kutappa was killed after trouble broke out during a procession to mark the Tipu Sultan Jayanti

Shivamogga: Anti Congress and anti CM slogans rent the air as workers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and the BJP staged a protest in front of the DC Office on Wednesday to express their ire on the killing of VHP worker Kuttappa in Madikeri.

Kutappa was killed after trouble broke out during a procession to mark the Tipu Sultan Jayanti on November 10. Earlier, protesters and leaders mourned the death of Kuttappa during the violence in Madikeri and demanded the arrest those who were responsible for his death.

The government should also ensure compensation of Rs 50 lakh, they demanded. Addressing the protest, RSS leader Pattabhiram said that the state government should drop the celebration of Tipu Jayanti which had been opposed by the people and come forward to build a healthy society. “According to the historic records, Tipu’s birth anniversary is on November 20 and not November 10. Then why did the government decide to organise Tipu Jayanti on the holy Naraka Chaturdashi – the first day of Deepavali”, he questioned.

He further said, “According to the history records on the day of Naraka Chaturdashi, Tipu attacked the pilgrim place of Melukote in Mandya district and massacred more than 800 people belonging to the Iyengar priests’ family. The Chief Minister has hurt the sentiments of many through organising Tipu Jayanti during the festivities of Deepavali”.
