Bengaluru: Man arrested for peddling ephedrine
Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch sleuths have arrested a 45-year-old rickshaw driver and recovered 4.8 kilograms of ephedrine, worth '4.8 lakh, from him. The accused Mahalinga, a resident of Kaggalipura, was caught when he came to deliver the drugs to an undercover cop informer near a bakery in Madiwala on Tuesday.
Mahalinga claimed that he had found the unclaimed bag with the drugs on Ring Road in Domlur last month. He said he brought the bag home and opened it to find white power similar to drugs he had seen on news channels.
Thinking he would make money, he approached many people but soon fell into the trap of one of the police informers who led the police to catch him red-handed. CCB officials have registered a case against him under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and remanded him to judicial custody. Ephedrine acts on the central nervous system and increases the blood pressure and pulse rates.
