‘Namaste Russia’
The dancers, aged 18 to 25, were selected from the Bharat Folk Arts Academy
A group of 25 dancers from Hyderabad, led by dancer Raghav Raj Bhatt, will say “Namaste Russia” this week as part of a one-of-its kind cultural programme hosted by the Indian Council For Cultural Relations.
The programme, Namaste India Tour 2015, has been going on for eight months and the team from Hyderabad will perform at the closing ceremony.
“We have been practising for the past six months. Our schedule has been hectic and we have been at it for three hours every day. That might not seem a lot but the various dance forms require a lot of stamina and the dancers have been practising hard,” says Raghav.
The group of dancers, between 18 and 25 years, were selected from the Bharat Folk Arts Academy for the show. “My father, Dr Gopal Raj Bhatt, always said that folk dance forms were the first-ever dance forms. It was his wish to propagate the dance forms. So, for this programme, we will be doing a mix of folk dances from around the country,” he adds.
The dancers will perform 12 folk dance forms. “From Telangana we will be performing Lambadi, Dappulu and another dance form. Apart from that, the performance will see Bihu dances, Ghumar and the Santhal dance form as well,” adds Raghav.
The programme is scheduled to take place from November 16 to November 18 in Russia.
