Job scam: Singareni ready for enquiry

Ms Kavitha said that it was silly politics and an attempt to derive political mileage

Hyderabad: In the wake of allegations over a job scam, OU JAC leaders on Tuesday burnt the effigy of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and demanded that the exam be reconducted by canceling the allotments.

“There is an instance wherein two people from the same family, twins, got similar ranks. Kin of around 70 SCCL employees cleared the exam and got the jobs. Many people paid lakhs of rupees and secured jobs for junior assistants’ positions,” he said.

Telangana State Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Konagala Mahesh, along with students, unemployed youth and other leaders, submitted a memorandum to state energy minister G. Jagadishwar Reddy demanding a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities.

“The issue surfaced some days back when one of the candidates, who got a job in Singareni as junior assistant, was roughed by his relatives for not informing them in advance or else they too would have paid money and got jobs for their children. This candidate, his brother-in-law and a few cousins had got jobs. The candidate was working in a private firm and had completed his studies a decade back. This incident occurred in Mancheryal,” Telangana PCC leader Mahesh said.

There are allegations that some of the candidates who had paid money were taken to a secret place where they were given the questions papers. “To clear all these doubts and to do justice to the unemployed youth, the TRS government should conduct an enquiry, cancel the exam and re-conduct it,” the Telangana PCC leader said.

When contacted, Ms Kavitha said that it was silly politics and an attempt to derive political mileage by dragging her name into a non-existent controversy.
“I have nothing to do with the Singareni management or exams. I am the leader of Singareni Boggugani Karmika Sangham which is affiliated to the TRS. I did speak to Singareni chairman and managing director Sridhar after my name cropped up.

Even the Singareni management did not conduct the exam. It was conducted by JNTU in a transparent manner. The JNTU team also re-verified the answer sheets and even the Singareni Vigilance wing too looked into the issue, and did not find any discrepancy, I was told,” Ms Kavitha told Deccan Chronicle.

Singareni Collieries chairman and managing director N. Sridhar brushed aside the allegations as baseless stating there was no leak of any question paper nor was there any irregularity.

“All care was taken to ensure the exam was conducted in a fool-proof manner. We had given the responsibility of conducting the exam to JNTU Hyderabad and they did it successfully.

We also enquired into the allegations of same family names and it was found that though the family name was the same, they were not from one family and belonged to different castes and places. Even their marks and answers to the questions were different from each other,” Mr Sridhar said.
The Singareni chairman added they were ready to conduct an enquiry candidate-wise if people came to them with concrete proof.
