Rs 25 crore released for IFR

Walls on the roads leading to Beach Road already have murals painted on them

Visakhapatnam: The state government, on Tuesday, issued a G.O. releasing funds to Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) to take up works for the upcoming International Fleet Review (IFR)-2016.

The government has issued administrative sanction orders for taking up certain civil works in connection with the IFR 2016 with an estimated cost of Rs 55.67 crore by the GVMC. On Tuesday, after careful examination, the government released an amount of Rs 25 crore to the GVMC commissioner from the State Finance Commission Grants. The G.O. also said that the Director of Municipal Administration, shall draw and adjust the amount of Rs 25 crore into the account of the GVMC commissioner for execution of the works sanctioned.

Beautification of city has been taken up by the GVMC in a big way for IFR. Apart from taking up some repair works, new roads have been laid, greenery is being developed along the national highway and at important junctions.

Walls on the roads leading to Beach Road already have murals painted on them. Traffic islands are also being spruced up. The GVMC had taken up around 339 works at a cost of Rs 74.08 crore for the IFR and 50 per cent of them have already been completed.
