Pre-paid autos back on Kollam streets

Pre-paid auto kiosks will also be started in Chinnakkada and the Kollam railway station

KOLLAM: The pre-paid auto service which had been non-functional for a long time will resume in the city from Wednesday. In view of the ever-increasing traffic congestion, special pre-paid parking lots will also be allotted to enable parking in the city.

The traffic regulatory committee meeting under the precedence of the district collector has also taken the decision to start pre-paid auto kiosks in Chinnakkada and the Kollam railway station.

The RTO has prepared new fares based on the committee’s direction and the rates will be implemented at the kiosks. The city traffic circle inspector has been entrusted with ensuring proper functioning of the pre-paid auto service.

Selected spots including the corporation owned land near the Clock Tower, the road along the railway station to Karbala, and the QAC road will have pre-paid parking facility in the city.

The facility will come into effect from Wednesday and no free parking will be allowed in these areas. Meanwhile, vehicles can park along one side of the road from the Benzigar hospital junction to the Kochupilamoodu and from FCI junction to the YMCA for free.

Parking of vehicles that cause difficulties for students along the Kappal-andimukku– ROB stretch and Chemmammukku to Vimala Hridaya school will be strictly prohibited, the collector announced.

Signboards carrying ‘No parking’ instructions will also be installed in these areas. Meanwhile, the possibility for opening the revenue land near the link road for paid parking will also be considered.
