PC George quits as MLA to be ‘model’ for KM Mani
Kottayam: Kerala Congress rebel leader and former government chief whip P.C. George announced his resignation as MLA on Tuesday. A formal letter would be handed over to the Speaker on Thursday, Mr George told reporters here.
Taking a dig at Finance Minister K.M. Mani, he said Mr Mani should consider this as a ‘model’ and resign. Mr George, MLA from the Poonjar constituency, quoted the Bible saying God will show justice to those who are just and to the crooked, He will be crooked.
He alleged that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had facilitated corruption in the government and hence he should resign. “To struggle against corruption is my aim, whereas Mani wants to amass money,” he said.
Maintaining that the Congress would survive only with good leadership, he said that the Congress had adopted soft Hindutva in the local body elections. This would not help the UDF government, he said.
According to him, Mr Chandy is behind the bar bribe allegation. The KC(M) committee which inquired into the issue had realised it, he added.
“Mr Chandy is trying to destroy the KC (M). Mr Mani knows this well. He blocked Mr P.J. Joseph who was ready to reveal this at a press meet,” Mr George said.
He expressed the confidence that the LDF would win the coming Assembly elections. He urged Mr P.J. Joseph to join the LDF. “If Mani resigns, Kerala Congress will emerge stronger under the leadership of Joseph,” he said.
George announced his resignation in the context of the ongoing procedures to disqualify from his position as MLA. The Speaker completed the arguments in the case the other day.
