Inflation dampens festive mood
Soaring prices of essential commodities appear to be dampening spirit of citizens
KARIMNAGAR: Soaring prices of essential commodities appear to be dampening spirit of citizens who are set to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights. Prices of pulses, vegetables and groceries are unaffordable to middle and lower income group families. Now, the festival is likely to be a low-key affair for many.
Rates of not only red gram and green gram, but also of vegetables were skyrocketed in the recent times. For instance, price of tomatoes, the key ingredient of any dish has been gone up from Rs 20 to Rs 40 per kg. Similarly, the other vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, green chili, bottle guard, beans, carrot and spinach saw at least 10 per cent rise in their prices.
In the mean time, prices of groceries including cooking oil, wheat flour, sugar and grains too were shot up. Cost of refined sun flower oil has been jumped from Rs 80 to Rs 90 per kilo gram.
