Vizag cricket stadium gets test match status
Stadiums at Vizag, Rajkot, Pune, Dharmshala, Indore and Ranchi got international test match host status
Visakhapatnam: The dreams of cricket fans in Vizag and surrounding areas to watch international test match cricket in Vizag is inch closer to reality as Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA stadium in Vizag city, the pride of Andhra Cricket, finally got recognition on Monday to conduct test matches.
Stadiums at Vizag, Rajkot, Pune, Dharmshala, Indore and Ranchi got international test match host status during the Annual General Meeting of the BCCI in Mumbai on Monday and it decided to accord the elusive status to the Vizag stadium.
Vizag stadium is not only picturesque but also the longest named cricket stadium in the world. One of the finest and modern stadiums in the country, the Vizag stadium, which lies in the outskirts of city and between two hillocks at PM Palem area, has hosted 5 One-Day Internationals, five IPL fixtures and women cricket matches, since 2005 has the entire infrastructure required to host Test Matches.
As per the ICC norms for hosting World Cup cricket matches, the stadium must get test match status and host a couple of test matches, so that Vizagites may get a chance to watch cricket matches of world cup in future. The vice-president of BCCI and general secretary of Andhra Cricket Association, Gokaraju Ganga Raju said that it is great day in the history of ACA on two counts as Vizag stadium got test status and Director (operations) of ACA, M.S.K. Prasad has been appointed as one of the member in senior selections committee of BCCI headed by Sandeep Patil.
