We can work towards a peaceful future: Dalai Lama

Recalling his visits in 1959 and 1960 to the city he said it was a very small town then
Chennai: The over 3,000-year-old Indian culture is rooted in non-violence and religious harmony and is a living example of harmony on the planet, spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, said during the launch of Abdul Kalam Seva Ratna Award at Music academy on Monday.
Dalai Lama congratulated those who received awards for their work and requested them to continue their work. “When I received the Nobel prize, it was for my contribution. So I have to continue my work of non-violence. If I stop doing it, then it would be wrong,” he said.
Recalling his visits in 1959 and 1960 to the city he said it was a very small town then. Now it is a big modern city. In fact, cities across the world have developed. “Nice city with technological developments is fine, but people should also have peace in mind. Outside they look joyful but inside they have lot of tension,” he said.
The existing education system is not adequate. Importance of inner world is necessary. “We have to think of education from physical and emotional aspect so that qualitative education is imparted,” he said.
No force can change the past but the future can be changed. “If we really make an
effort now, the later part of the 21st century can be made more peaceful and harmonious,” he said.
Basic human nature is more compassionate, he said. “If we really hope and utilise human intelligence we can build a happy world. Bring a change based on constructive emotions,” he said.
