UPSC shortlists Bahuguna, Sharma and Khan for DGP post
Mr Khan, who is from the 1981 batch, currently heads the Anti-Corruption Bureau
Hyderabad: The UPSC empanelment committee has shortlisted senior IPS officers Aruna Bahuguna, A.K. Khan and Anurag Sharma to head the Telangana state police.
The list will be sent to the TS government for final selection. According to sources, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to select Mr Sharma, a 1982 batch officer, who is at present the in-charge DGP of the state.
Ms Bahuguna belongs to the 1979 batch and is the senior-most among the three officials. She is currently director of the National Police Academy. If she is chosen, Ms Bahuguna will be the first woman to head the police force in the state.
Mr Khan, who is from the 1981 batch, currently heads the Anti-Corruption Bureau. All three officials are of DGP rank. The list was finalised by the committee, which included TS Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, after a meeting held in the UPSC building at Dholpur House in New Delhi.
In September, the government had sent a list of five senior IPS officials to the Union Home ministry. Apart from the three, the list included Kode Durga Prasad and Tejdeep Kaur Menon.
