Normal life affected in Pondicherry

Puducherry recorded 24 cm rain Monday India Meteorological Department said
Puducherry: Incessant rains over the past 24 hours have brought life virtually to a standstill in Puducherry. The entire administration is on standby, waiting for the depression over south-west Bay of Bengal to pass over.
So far, one casualty was reported from near Ariyankuppam, where a man, 65, was killed in a wall collapse. Puducherry recorded 24 cm rain Monday India Meteorological Department said. Many trees were uprooted and power supply was suspended as a precautionary measure from Sunday midnight.
The situation is safe and under control now, A. Vincent Rayar, deputy collector (North), told Deccan Chronicle. An emergency meeting was held at the disaster management relief centre on Sunday.
Officials of various departments of revenue and disaster management, fisheries, health, police, fire force, electricity, municipalities and panchayats attended the meet, following which a control room was also started. Toll free numbers (1077,1070) have been circulated among residents.
A repeat warning was issued for fishermen, advising them not to venture into sea for the next 48 hours.
