Chain snatching: Bhavaria gang leader lands in Bengaluru police net

With the questioning of Chatrasen, the south-east division police have claimed to have solved over 30 chain snatching cases

BENGALURU: The HSR Layout police have taken a leader of notorious Bhavaria gang into custody on body warrant. Investigations revealed that he has snatched over 40 chains in the city in past two years.

Chatrasen, who hails from Shamli near Meerut city in Uttar Pradesh, was caught by the Haryana police about 15 days ago in Gurgaon while he was on the run after committing chain snatching in the state.

According to the police, in 2014, the city police had arrested two members of Bhavaria gang who had struck terror on city roads. During interrogation, the duo had told the police about their leader Chatrasen. In their statement to the police they had allegedly informed that Chatrasen used to plan the entire operation and arrange for the mode of transport for the members to send them to other states to commit the crime.

After gathering credible information about the accused, the police raided his residence a few times in Shamli but in vain following which a warrant was issued against him. “We had received the information from Haryana police about his arrest. Soon, a team was sent to Gurgaon who then brought Chatrasen to the city on November 6. During interrogation, the accused confessed to have committing the crime,” said DCP South-East, Ms. Rohini Katoch.

With the questioning of Chatrasen the south-east division police claimed to have solved over 30 cases of chain snatching took place in the city since 2014. A case has been registered.
