Of course, it’s a Thala Diwali!
Describing the experience of working with Ajith, Siva says, he’s a perfectionist
For filmmaker Siruthai Siva, directing Ajith for the second time in Vedalam after Veeram is indeed a dream come true. “Vedalam will be a treat for everybody, especially the female audience. We wanted the film to release on Diwali and we planned it accordingly. Ajith hasn’t done a full-on commercial entertainer like this before and this has a message to the audience as well. His dialogues and body language would be a big plus in the movie. In Veeram, he did a village-based role but this would be a complete opposite. Ajith plays a phantom-like character in this, inspired by the ones appearing in Muthu Comics and other popular Tamil comics of the bygone era. Vedalam refers to somebody who’s unexpected and unpredictable. I personally felt the title is heroic. I had a fantastic time making the movie,” says Siva.
Describing the experience of working with Ajith, Siva says, “He’s a perfectionist, self made, and superhuman. Working with him is always a pleasure and an experience by itself. I learnt a lot while directing him. Apart from being very focused, he’s someone who knows his art perfectly. The story was such that we needed someone like him. What I found fascinating about him was the range of his knowledge; he knew so much about what we were discussing or going to film. His eye for detail is his greatest strength, absolute, perfect detail. He knows exactly what the audience wants to see. I look forward to working with him again.”
Siva wants to do commercial films that everybody can watch, all his life. “Commercial success means a lot to me. I want my audiences to come to the theatres, watch the film and forget their worries. What matters to me is the smile that I put on their face when they leave. But I enjoy watching serious films too,” he tells us. Speaking about Shruti Haasan and Lakshmi Menon, Siva says that both are a director’s delight. “In Vedalam, Ajith, Soori and Shruti have interesting combination scenes together. She’s tried her hand at comedy too. Lakshmi pays attention to even the minutest expression. She and Ajith share a great bond both on and off the sets. It’s great to see that the ‘sibling love’ has come alive in many scenes in the movie,” he concludes.
