Dr G Parameshwara Will monitor social media sites during riots
Udupi/Mangaluru: Considering the adverse effects of social media during communal incidents, Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Sunday said that his department will monitor the social media.
“Social media is bad sometimes. We will keep an eye on the social media,” Mr Parameshwar told reporters when asked about the rumour mongers using networking sites to foment trouble in the region.
He said that anti-social elements that try to disturb harmony in the region will be dealt with severely. On Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary celebrations, he said legal action will be taken against those who violate the law and try to disrupt the programme.
Mr Parameshwar, who is also Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, said that he is waiting for an explanation from Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya on a recent TV sting that shows his wife allegedly taking money to clear a tender for hostels.
Earlier in Mangaluru, the home minister denied charges that the police force was soft on Hindu outfits. He said that the Mangaluru District Prison, where two prisoners were killed recently, will be shifted to Chelur-Kurnad village in Bantwal Taluk.
