Tamil Nadu: Half burnt body of girl child found dumped in sack

The police have not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault

Chennai: A half burnt body of an eight-year-girl was found in a sack dumped in a bush at Mahalakshmi Nagar in Guduvancherry in neighbouring Kancheepuram district on Sunday morning. The police came to know about the body after local residents noticed street dogs trying to maul the content of a sack found in the open area near a private nursery school.

“It was a naked body of a girl and the face was half burnt, probably to mask the identity of the victim,” the police said. The body was sent to Chengalpet government hospital for autopsy.

Police believe the girl was murdered somewhere else and body bought to Guduvancherry to dispose of after trying to burn the face. The identity of the girl is not immediately known.

“We don’t have any missing complaint about the girl in the local station. All other neighbouring police stations were alerted,” a police officer said.

The police have not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault, particularly because her body was found without clothes. It appears she was strangled to death as there were strangulation marks around her neck.

“We are waiting for the autopsy report to know if there was sexual assault before the girl was murdered,” the officer said.
