City machinery gets ready for cyclone ‘Roanu’
Chennai: Following the prediction by weather department that a possible cyclone ‘Roanu’ may hit the Tamil Nadu coast on Monday and heavy rains that lashed city after which 17 trees were uprooted in and around Chennai, the city administration and police are bracing up themselves to face intense climate condition on Monday.
“A control room in tandem with the city corporation control room has been set up for better co-ordination in possible emergency situation. Quick reaction team along with nearly 20000 police personnel are now being kept on full alert to handle situation arising out of heavy rains and winds predicted by weatherman,” said a senior police officer.
Low-lying areas were already identified and corporation school and community halls were identified for lodging people after evacuation from rain- affected areas.
On Sunday 4 cars, 1 van and 4 bikes were damaged because of uprooted trees due to rain.
