Bihar results a tribute to my father, says Ikhlaq’s son

The situation in Dadri had been tense for weeks after Ikhlaq’s killing

Bisada, Uttar Pradesh: Dadri, a village in Uttar Pradesh, which influenced the Bihar polls to a great extent, after a man’s death over rumours of him having consumed beef, approved the outcome of the Bihar results.

According to reports, Sartaj, Mohammad Ikhlaq's eldest son, who is a corporal in the IAF, said the Bihar verdict is a tribute to his father. "There's no space for hate politics in our country. Today's result is a tribute to my father, and against hate and communalism. People should realise there is no gain in fighting in the name of religion. I appeal to all politicians not to divide the country for the sake of power," he said.

Situation in Dadri has been tense for week after Ikhlaq’s killing. Villagers blamed politicians squarely for disturbing communal harmony. "If politicians had not visited our village, we were capable of dealing with the situation. But politicians need vote banks. The Bihar result is a slap on their faces," a former pradhan of the village was quoted as saying.

Apart from Ikhlaq’s family, other folks from the village also welcomed the results saying that people had united against the gathering forces of communalism.
