Censor trouble for Sooraj Barjatya, has been asked to make three cuts in PRDP

Mumbai: The glossy journey of Sooraj Barjatya's highly anticipated ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ met with a rough patch. The Censor Board recently suggested Sooraj Barjatya, possibly the cleanest filmmaker in Bollywood, to affect three cuts in his upcoming film ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’.

There are two scenes that have been censored. One of which includes a Ram-Leela sequence which had Hindi melodies playing in the background. Eventually the scene plays out with the film’s title track and was interspersed with two old songs playing in the same portions. The members of the board felt that it was not suitable to accompany the Ram-Leela visuals.

The other scene showed a person being hanged, but the examining committee wanted it to be a long shot. The Censor Board even took objection to the use of rakhail (mistress). This did come as a shock to the film’s unit but they decided to adhere to their suggestions.

Apparently, the film's Telugu version, which has been titled ‘Prem Leela’, got into a pothole earlier, as the title is not in-sync with the censor rules for dubbed films down south. A close source from the Censor Board had said, "The title of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ in Telugu has been kept as ‘Prem Leela’. The two titles mean completely different things. As per guidelines the title of a dubbed film must convey the same meaning as the original title. If not, then the producers must apply for permission to use a different title for the dubbed version of a film. The producers of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ have not applied for permission to use a different title in Telugu."
