Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has claimed that the UDF loss in the local body elections is not as bad as that being projected by a section.
He rejected theories of an LDF wave in the state. " The seats won by LDF this time are less than that won by UDF in 2010.
When UDF won the majority of local body seats nobody saw it as a UDF wave. UDF seat share this time is the second largest-ever by the front in local body elections.
In all other local body elections, LDF had won higher number of local bodies.
"One of the major gains by BJP was in Thiruvananthapuram. It should be remembered that of the 34 wards won by the BJP to the Corporation, 23 were those held by CPM, " he said.
Mr Chandy said that UDF would make some changes in its functioning. These had to be first discussed in party and UDF forums.
When asked whether the UDF would cooperate with BJP in Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur Corporations where no party had a majority, he said that the party would not cooperate with BJP or any non-UDF parties.
The stand of UDF was that the parties with the highest tally should rule the local body concerned, he said.
